In 2006 Olive and Oil opened its doors in the bustling village that forms the heart of Umhlanga Rocks. As a family owned business, we strived to carry that passion for family forward, by creating a family-friendly environment for our guests.
We looked to the Mediterranean for our inspiration, where family and the finest foods are the key ingredients to life. The Olive has had a huge impact on all the important civilisations of the Mediterranean for at least 4000 years, evoking feelings of harmony, vitality and health. It is this sense of the divine that has been the driving force behind our traditionally Mediterranean fare, and the reason that we provide each table with a selection of the finest olives upon arrival.
From our early beginnings with our first restaurant in Umhlanga Rocks, our family has grown to include other restaurants in Ballito, Glenwood, Hillcrest and Pietermaritzburg. We at Olive and Oil are very proud of the fact that we are a family business. Both the Itopoulos and Storkey families are directly involved in the day to day operation of all our restaurants. Our staff and our guests are equally important to us, and we continually strive to ensure that this love for friendship and family is a vital part of the success of Olive and Oil.
Testament to this Olive and Oil philosophy is our long standing relationship with many of our suppliers. Drawing on their reliability and time-tested products, we are consistently able to use only the finest ingredients in our recipes. It is due to these relationships, many fostered over 20 years ago, that we are confident enough in our product to list the contact number for Jacqui Itopoulos in every menu and on every table.
